Preparing for University

We know that your son or daughter will want to make their room feel like home, but they should still think carefully about what they will actually need. After all, everything they bring with them they’ll just need to take back at the end of the year!

You can read more here about what they can expect to find in their room and flat, this should help decide what they will and won’t need to pack. There’s also advice on what they should bring on our student site, with specific advice for international students available too. It’s worth encouraging your son or daughter to join their Official Hall Facebook group as well, here they can find their flatmates and discuss with them any extras they want to bring for their flat.

They could even try out Quiddich!

If your son or daughter wants to try something new, then the Union also runs a series of ‘Give it a Go’ activities and events. They’re a great way to get a taste of a new activity with no pressure to join.

Register for a GP

We encourage all students to register with the a local GP in Leeds when they arrive so that if they need help, treatment or advice they can get this as quickly and easily as possible. Most students register with the Leeds Student Medical Practice which is located just across the road from the Parkinson Building.
