Register your property

Registering your belongings makes it easier to return them if they are lost or stolen.

Immobilise is the world's largest free property register. Anyone can use it to register their valued possessions.

Anything with a bar code or serial number can be registered. These items are then linked to the National Mobile Property Register (NMPR). If your registered item is lost or stolen, you use IMMOBILISE to instantly inform police, insurers and the second-hand trade. This can help a lot in recovering your property and catching thieves.

The NMPR online checking service is used by all UK police forces to trace owners of lost and stolen property. There are over 250 cases a week of property returned as a direct result of Immobilise.

You can also use an ultraviolet pen or etching tool to mark your property with your permanent home postcode and house number, as this will deter criminals, eg NT42 9WA7 marked up, represents 7 West Street, Notown, NT42 9WA.
