Adapted accommodation

AccessAbleWe have adapted accommodation in a number of University residences, including for physical, hearing and visual impairment.

Alterations include flashing fire alarms, vibrating pillows and grab rails. We also adapt rooms according to individual needs, for example lowering shelves, switches and kitchen facilities.

Accommodation for mobility restrictions

Charles Morris Hall   

  • Catered and self-catered facilities available for mobility impaired students
  • Adapted rooms: for wheelchair users, hearing and visually impaired students
  • Location: on campus

Clarence Dock Village (formerly Liberty Dock)

  • Self-catered
  • Adapted rooms: for mobility difficulties but not wheelchair users
  • Location: Clarence Dock is approximately 2.5 miles from campus, on the other side of the city centre. Own transport or ability to use public transport.

Devonshire Hall

  • Self-catered
  • Adapted rooms: may be suitable for mobility difficulties and powered wheelchair/scooter users
  • Location: approximately 1 mile from campus, on Cumberland Road, off Headingley Lane. Roads are on an incline so not suitable for manual wheelchair travel to/from campus. Public transport available from Headingley Lane to campus.

James Baillie Park

  • Self-catered
  • Adapted rooms: may be suitable for mobility difficulties and powered wheelchair/scooter users
  • Location: approximately 1.25 miles from the campus on North Hill Road, off Headingley Lane. Roads are on an incline so not suitable for manual wheelchair travel to/from campus. Public transport available from Headingley Lane to campus.

Leodis Residences

  • Self-catered
  • Adapted rooms: may be suitable for mobility difficulties and powered wheelchair/scooter users.
  • Location: approximately 1/3 mile from campus. At bottom of a steep hill, so not suitable for manual wheelchair travel to/from campus. Those unable to use stairs (and so shortcut entrance) will have to go around the residence to enter. For this reason, own transport is preferable.

Lyddon Hall 

  • Catered
  • Adapted rooms: 3 wheelchair accessible rooms. En-suite with level access showers and accessible kitchen so you can make their own snacks/meals.
  • Location: on campus.

Montague Burton Residences

  • Self-catered
  • Adapted rooms: may be suitable for mobility difficulties and possibly powered wheelchair/scooter users.
  • Location: approximately a quarter of a mile from the campus. The residence is half-way down a steep hill, so not suitable for manual wheelchair travel to/from campus.

Shared Houses – on-campus 

  • Self-catered
  • Adapted rooms: 2 houses on the campus have been adapted for wheelchair users. Each house contains 8 bedrooms, with 2 ground floor bedrooms suitable for mobility difficulties or wheelchair users.
  • Location: On campus, so suitable for manual and powered wheelchair/scooter users.

Smaller Residences – Clarendon Road

  • Self-catered
  • Adapted rooms: suitable for mobility difficulties but able to climb one step, as the shower is not level access.
  • Location: house on Clarendon Road, a few minutes’ walk from the campus.
