Buses

First buses are the main bus company operating in Leeds and you will see their buses all across the city.
All of our residences are on, or very close to, frequent bus routes, making it easy for you to travel to and from University or the city centre. Services run into the night, providing an economical way of getting home after a night out.
If you plan to use the buses frequently you might find it more economical to purchase one of their student tickets.

Cars

We don't advise students to bring a car to Leeds, parking is extremely limited and it is much easier to get around by bus/bicycle or on foot (besides being better for the environment!). If you think a car is essential, check first whether the residence has parking and make sure you apply for a parking permit (more details will be provided online before you arrive, as part of your eIntro* induction to residence life).
*The eIntro is an online programme which is sent to you on acceptance of your residence contract. It gives lots of useful information on living in our accommodation as well as documentation for you to send to us.

Velocampus

The University is running a VeloCampus bicycle scheme to make it easier and cheaper for you to get around Leeds. You can hire a bike for a year, all bikes are in good condition and the scheme even provides free maintenance.
The University has its own Bicycle Users Group (BUG) which provides lots of useful advice and information on getting started.
Cycle storage facilities are available at most of our residences (you may not keep your bicycle inside the residence anywhere, as it is in breach of health and safety regulations).

Taxis

There are many taxi firms in Leeds, meaning that you should always be able to get home at any time of day or night.
Here are just a few of the local registered taxi firms:

  • Amber Cars 0113 230 6090
Amber Cars will even take you home if you have no cash - you just have to give them your University of Leeds student card. Then the following day you go to the Students' Union to pick up your student card and pay the fare.
  • City Cabs 0113 246 9999
  • Royal Cars 0113 230 5000

Walking

Don't forget that most of our residences are within easy walking distance of campus, it's a great form of exercise besides being better for your bank balance! You'll see many of our students walking to and from the University or city centre all year round.
