How to Pay
Paying your Deposit
Every student who accepts a contract in University of Leeds Accommodation must pay a £200 deposit. Your deposit must be paid within 7 days of the offer of accommodation. The deposit is a returnable sum providing all rent is paid and no damage or administration charges are made. The deposit (less any deductions) will usually be returned within 4 weeks of the end of the contract. (This can take longer for international bank transfers.)
Please note that if you choose to pay your rent in 9 monthly instalments, we will aim to refund your deposit within 6 weeks of the end of the contract. This is due to the fact that the final payment may be due a few days after the end of your contract. This allows us sufficient time to process any returned direct debits before we process the refund.
The most convenient way to pay your deposit is by credit/debit card via our secure online payment facility. Using our secure online website is usually the fastest and safest way to pay your deposit and provided the card is still active, it is certainly the quickest way for us to refund your deposit at the end of your contract.
Please note that if a friend or relative pays your deposit for you, we will have to refund your deposit back to your friend/relative.
Financial regulations require that the University refund all monies paid directly back to source. This means that we have to refund in the method that was used to pay. We do not recommend that you pay by cash. If you do pay in cash, and require a refund, we will only be able to do so if you are able to provide proof of where the funds came from. This can often be quite difficult and time consuming. Where possible, please try to pay by an alternative method listed below.
Payment by Card
The easiest, fastest and most secure way to pay your accommodation deposit is by using our secure online payment facility. Funds will reach us more quickly, and provided the card is still in use, it is also the fastest way to receive your deposit refund back at the end of the contract.
You can also contact us on 0870 1200 189 to pay over the telephone, or come to the Accommodation office, Student Services Centre in the Ziff Building and pay with your card at our counter.
Payment by Cheque
Cheques must be made payable to "The University of Leeds". When making a payment by cheque, you must write your name and your student (ID) number on the back of the cheque. Your ID number is shown on the top right hand corner of your statement (e.g. R200200200). Send your deposit cheque to:

Payment directly into the University bank account (Bank Transfer)
If you are paying by international bank transfer please note that it can take several weeks for the funds to reach us and you may be charged bank fees by both your bank and the receiving UK bank. This may mean that we receive less than the required £200. If you pay via this method, we will refund any remaining deposit back at the end of your contract via international bank transfer. Again, this can take several weeks to process, and you may be charged fees by the bank.
When making payment direct to the University bank account you must quote your name and your student (ID) number.

Payment by Cash
For your safety, and to ensure compliance by the University with banking and financial legal requirements, you should not pay your deposit using cash.
If you do need to pay by cash, please take this in person to the Cash Services, Student Services Centre, Marjorie and Arnold Ziff Building. Cash must not be sent through the post.
Due to financial regulations, all refunds must be returned to source. This means that we are obliged to refund in the method that was used to pay. If you pay in cash, and require a refund, we will only be able to do so if you are able to provide proof of where the funds came from. This can often be quite difficult and time consuming. Where possible, please try to pay by an alternative method.
