Palentine's Day

Wondering what to do with your friends on the famous February 14? Here’s some ideas for if you’re single or not - for your Palentine’s Day!

Palentine’s Day is like Valentine’s Day, but you’re not limited to celebrating it with just romantic partners - it is a day to show love and appreciation for your friends and family too! Some also call it Galentine’s Day; but regardless of the name, here is a guide on how to make the most out of your day!

What do I do on the 14th?

  • Take a walk with your friends in Meanwood Valley Trail, Woodhouse Moor, or Roundhay Park.

  • Go for a meal together, or even just a coffee!

  • In the mood for something sweet? Try baking these treats with your friends! BBC Good Food Valentine's Day Recipes

  • Have a movie night in, with all the popcorn, chocolate, and crisps - or even go as a group to see the latest release in the cinema.

  • Go bowling or mini-golfing!

  • Attend an Event in LUU - book via Engage

  • Join in on Residence Life’s Valentine’s Day Embroidery - February 14, 2.30pm - 4.30pm, Room 4, LUU.

  • If your friends aren't close by, send them a nice postcard they can stick to their wall, or even send them a text of appreciation!

 Gift ideas?

Who said the idea of a Secret Santa gift exchange has to be limited to Christmas? Try out Secret Cupid - name under construction! Gather your nearest and dearest, write down names on slips of paper and pull them out of a bag. Set a price limit, shop (or DIY) in secret, and exchange the gifts all together. You could even make a day of it, and do one of the activities suggested in this guide.

If you’re stuck on what to get, here’s some gift ideas:

  • Plant in a cute pot

  • Candles or fairy lights

  • Their favourite chocolates or sweets (you can get these in the LUU Co-op)

  • Voucher for coffee or ice cream

  • Skincare or makeup item they love

  • Poster or a print for their wall

  • A book you think they’d like

  • A cute tote bag - Etsy and Redbubble have great ones!

Self-love

Although you could spend time with your friends, it is also okay if you want to enjoy time to yourself.

  • Have a self-care evening - do a face mask, paint your nails, have a bubble bath

  • Watch your favourite film or TV show

  • Cook your favourite meal or dessert (or get it as a takeaway!)

  • Read that book you’ve been wanting to start

Valentine’s/Palentine’s/Galentine’s Day is technically only on the 14 February every year, but you don’t have to limit yourself to just this day to show your family, friends, and yourself love and appreciation. Implement these ideas year round - when you or a loved one needs a pick-me-up, for birthdays, holidays, or friendaversaries.
