Guide to accessibility at all freshers events with Residence Life 2022
20th September
Residence Life Warden Welcome Talk (Royal Park Flats)
Rupert Beckett Lecture Theatre, Michael Sadler Building
And Pyramid Canteen in LUU at 6pm
Talk from your Residence Life Warden which involves a presentation for approximately an hour. This will be followed by a mixer in the LUU building lasting around an hour which will encourage socialising, chatting and meeting other people from your residence. Food and drinks will be available at the mixer. Some optional icebreaker games (team activities) may take place at the mixer. The talk is mandatory but the mixer is optional.

Michael Sadler has an accessible entrance on the West side of the building, near to a circular courtyard. There are wheelchair spaces at the front of the Rupert Beckett Lecture Theatre.
LUU Pyramid Canteen & Theatre
Entry to Venue
If students need accessibility assistance, Help and Support can be found at the Help Desk in the LUU foyer. Students can then be met and escorted down to the venue.
Two lift options are available to the first basement floor (Co-op level)
Lift 1 can be found opposite the Refectory. This lift goes to floor -1. From there, the lift to the venue is located at the end of the corridor, past the food vendors, Co-op and the Scarlet Studio and Mango Studio. This lift can then be used to get to Pyramid Canteen (floor -2) and Pyramid Theatre (floor -3)
Lift 2 is located through the doors to the left of the main Terrace entrance and then by turning right once you’re through those doors. From there, the lift to the venue is located at the end of the corridor, past Stylus steps, Co-op and the Scarlet Studio and Mango Studio. This lift can then be used to get to Pyramid Canteen (floor -2) and Pyramid Theatre (floor -3)
Accessible toilets
An Accessible toilet can be found at the back right hand side of Pyramid Canteen, on the upper level. This can be accessed via ramp. There is no toilet available in the theatre.
Bar
The bar is on the upper level of Pyramid Canteen. This can be accessed via the ramp.
Seating
The accessible seating area in Pyramid Theatre for wheelchair users is on the left hand side of the entrance. This can hold 2-3 wheelchairs.

23rd September
All Halls BBQ
Terrace, LUU
Open from 12pm, Food from 2pm
This is an optional event and tickets are not required to enter. You will be asked to show your wristband at the door. From 2pm free BBQ food will be served and you will also receive a free drink voucher. At this event you can chat and socialise to others from all of our residences. Residence Life staff will also be there if you have questions about other events or about life in Halls. You can stay for as long as you would like and at any point you can leave.
Quieter hours: 12-2pm, before food starts. The music will be quieter at this time.

Postgraduate Afternoon Tea
Marquee outside LUU from 3pm – 5pm
This is an optional event and tickets are not required to enter. You will be asked to show your wristband at the entrance. At this event you will receive free afternoon tea (scones and a hot drink). You can chat and socialise to others from our postgraduate residences. You can stay for as long as you would like and at any point you can leave.
This event will take place in an outdoor marquee.
Quiet space if needed: LUU Foyer
Accessibility information: The marquee and grass area are step free. An accessible toilet is located inside the Union in the foyer.
24th September

The event is a talk from two members of the Careers Centre to help you make the most of your time at University. There will be an opportunity to ask questions. You can stay for as long as you would like and at any point you can leave.
This event will take place in an indoor theatre space.
Quiet room if required: Pyramid canteen, located next to the theatre, will be a designated quiet space for this event.

Accessibility information: The Margaret Clitheroe room is on the ground floor and accessible for wheelchairs, with an accessible toilet very nearby. There is also a hearing loop system in the room.
27th September
Halls Headphone Disco
Stylus, LUU from 11.30pm
This is an optional event and tickets are required to enter. You will be asked to show your ticket at the door. You will collect a pair of wireless headphones, drinks will be available to purchase from the club bar. This event will take place in a club environment in LUU. You can stay for as long as you would like and at any point you can leave.
Quiet room: There is not a designated quiet space for this event.

The lift to Stylus is located through the doors to the left of the main Terrace entrance and then by turning right once you’re through those doors. Stylus is located on floor -1 from this lift and is to the left after you leave the lift.
Accessible toilets
The accessible toilet is located behind the cloakroom next to the function toilets. This level can be accessed via the upper level of Stylus
Bar
There are 3 bars in Stylus. 1 on the upper level, accessed via the main entrance near the accessible lift. The other 2 bars are located on the middle level of Stylus on both sides. These can be accessed via the accessible lift opposite Function.
28th September
Freshers Fair Booth
Outside LUU from 10am – 4pm
Residence Life will have a booth outdoors at the Fresher fair and you can meet the team here and play a game to win a prize. We will also be there to answer questions you might have about life in Halls. We will also be giving out information about events and about the Residence Life Social Committee programme. It is your choice if you want to come and see us at the booth.

28th September
Postgraduate Trip to Harewood House
Meet at Parkinson Steps at 10.15am, return 4.30pm
This is an optional event and tickets are required to enter. We will have a register of everyone who has purchased a ticket and we will check this on the day at the coach door.
This event will involve a coach trip and then visit to Harewood House. Once you are at Harewood House there will not be a set schedule and you can visit as you would like. There is a house and extensive gardens to visit. Animals and birds are available to see in the gardens.
Please note that you will not be able to leave when you like and you must wait for the return coach to campus.

Sports Day
Woodhouse Moor (near to the Library Pub) from 3pm – 6pm
This is an optional event and tickets are not required to enter. You will be asked to show your wristband when you arrive. At this event you can have a free ice cream from an ice cream van.
The event will include sports equipment so that you can play games with other students from all residences, including volleyball, badminton, football, softball, frisbee. You can also get involved in some relay races if you want to. You can stay for as long as you would like and at any point you can leave.
This event will take place on grass in an outdoor public park.

28th September
Residence Life Warden Welcome Talk (Clarence Dock Village)
Online (link to join via email) Pizza collection 5.30pm, Talk 6pm
This will be an online talk from your Residence Life Warden which involves a presentation for approximately an hour. During the talk there will be some interactive elements such as polls and quiz questions. The talk is mandatory for all residents. Before the talk you will be invited to pick up free pizza with your flatmates and to watch the talk together, but the pizza is optional.
28th September

Craft Session
Room 5, LUU from 3pm – 6pm
This is an optional event and tickets are not required to enter. You will be asked to show your wristband at the entrance.
There will be lots of craft activities available to you at this event and you can choose what you want to do. Activities will include painting tote bags and teatowels, decorating flower pots, macramé and mindful colouring. There will be quiet music playing in the background. You can stay for as long as you would like and at any point you can leave.

Undergraduate Trip to Harewood House

01st October
LGBTQ+ Mixer and City Chase
Function, LUU from 12pm – 4pm
This is an optional event and tickets are not required to enter. You will be asked to show your wristband at the entrance.
This event is for any LGBTQ+ students living in residences and all are welcome. There will be free food and drinks that you can serve yourself. Socialising and talking to others is a key element of this event and we will encourage you to chat to other students.
There will also be an optional City Chase game where students take part in groups. The city chase involves going to certain places in the city centre and answering key questions about the destinations to earn points. This is timed and the team who returns with the most correct answers in the time frame will win a prize.
You can stay for as long as you would like and at any point you can leave.

Two lift options are available to the first basement floor (Co-op level)
Lift 1 can be found opposite the Refectory. This lift goes to floor -1. From there, the lift to the venue is located at the end of the corridor, past the food vendors, Co-op and the Scarlet Studio and Mango Studio. This lift can then be used to get to Function (floor - 1 on that lift)
Lift 2 is located through the doors to the left of the main Terrace entrance and then by turning right once you’re through those doors. This lift goes to floor -1. From there, the lift to the venue is located at the end of the corridor, past Stylus steps, Co-op and the Scarlet Studio and Mango Studio. This lift can then be used to get to Function (-1)
Accessible toilets
The accessible toilet is located just outside of the main Function entrance.
Bar
The bar in Function is step free to the right side of the room.

Sun Sets: Live acoustic music
Marquee outside LUU from 6pm
This is an optional event and tickets are not required to enter. You will be asked to show your wristband at the entrance.
Several musicians will perform acoustic music at this event and drinks will be available to purchase. You can stay for as long as you would like and at any point you can leave.
This event will take place in an outdoor marquee.
Quiet room: LUU Foyer
Accessibility information: The marquee and grass area are step free. An accessible toilet is located inside the Union in the foyer.
02nd October
Residence Life Warden Welcome Talk (The Tannery)
The Refectory from 7pm
Talk from your Residence Life Warden which involves a presentation for approximately an hour. This event will include dinner and drinks and will encourage socialising, chatting and meeting other people from your residence. The talk is mandatory for all residents.
Quiet space if needed: LUU Foyer
Accessibility information: The Refectory is accessible via a ramp at the front entrance, and inside the venue there is step free access throughout.
10th October
All Halls Quiz with Shaun Wallace
Terrace, LUU from 6pm – 9pm
This is an optional event and tickets are required to enter. We will have a register of everyone who has purchased a ticket and we will check this on the day at the door. Tickets will be for a table of four people so if you purchase a ticket you can bring up to 3 other people with you to make a team.
Food and drinks will be available to purchase from the bar at this event. The quiz will include 5 rounds and will be devised and hosted by Shaun Wallace.

Accessibility information
Entry to Venue
If students need accessibility assistance, Help and Support can be found at the Help Desk in the LUU foyer. Students can then be met and escorted down to the venue.
The accessible entrance to Terrace can be found in the foyer, in between the student advice offices, to the right of the main LUU entrance. This then leads to a ramp to the main bar area.
Accessible Toilets
An accessible toilet can be found near the main entrance of LUU, next to the main Female toilets in the Foyer.
Bar
The bar is located on the upper level of Terrace which is accessed via a ramp.
