Donating in Halls

During your time in halls, there are plenty of opportunities to give back to your local community through donations.

We work with charities to help collect donations and fund their ongoing efforts to help out in Leeds.

British Heart Foundation

A number of our sites have collection points for British Heart Foundation, where you can donate clothes, shoes, accessories, books, DVDs, games, and more for re-use and re-sale in the local community by simply bagging them up and dropping them off. Collection bins are emptied regularly, and residents can collect red BHF bags from their halls reception to bag up their unwanted belongings.

Last year donations from our sites raised over £63,000 for British Heart Foundation, with a whopping 4500 bags donated, saving 36 tonnes of goods from landfill!

The money raised from these collections goes straight back into our local community, funding amazing research into heart disease at the British Heart Foundation research base at the University of Leeds, along with paying for vital equipment in local hospitals such as Leeds General Infirmary.

To help contribute to the great research happening on campus, donate any of your unwanted belongings at one of our collection points! BHF accept bedding (sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers only), clothes, cookware, crockery & cutlery (no glass or sharp knives), homeware, stationery, toys, and working electrical items which are undamaged. Speak to your site team to find out where your nearest donation collection point is.

Rainbow Junktion

Rainbow Junktion

Our halls also regularly collect food donations for Rainbow Junktion, specifically around the winter break and move out at the end of your contract.

Rainbow Junktion is a Leeds-based charity that is working to combat food poverty in our city. Their volunteers run a pay-as-you-feel Community Café and food share in the heart of Hyde Park, allowing people access to healthy and nutritious hot meals and a bank of surplus food with no referral needed and no judgment.

The organization accepts donations of pasta, rice, sealed canned items (soup, meat, vegetables), biscuits, tea, coffee, sugar, lentils, and other cupboard foods and snacks. All donated items are either used in the cooking at the café or put in the surplus food bank.

This year we will be taking food donations at many of our halls for Rainbow Junktion from 1-16 December. If you have unopened food in your cupboards that you don’t think you’ll use, donate it to the drop-off points and help members of our local community eat well during the holidays! To find out more about how to donate at your site and where the drop-off point will be, speak to your site team or reception.
